Glass tile is an excellent choice when selecting tile, yet there are a few factors to consider. To ensure a long lasting repair free installation, one must take care when installing glass tile. Spacers should always be used as butting glass tiles tight to one another may cause cracking in the future. When installing glass tile, always use a latex modified thinset to avoid spotting that can result from oils in adhesives. If you’re installing a large format tile, utilize an anti-fracture membrane as these tiles have a greater chance of cracking down the line. When grouting, an unsanded grout should be used with an additive to help prevent shrinkage. In addition, one should utilize a color matched caulk in all the corners. Finally, always use the proper blade to cut glass. The blade should be a diamond type, properly sized and installed on the wet saw to ensure that the glass tile is not irregularly cut.
